NVHC Shabbaton: Spirituality and the World Around Us
Feb 2 @ 2:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Mark your calendars for the annual NVHC Shabbaton!

This year’s Shabbaton will be a day of prayer, study, and making delicious food together for adults as a community. Our theme this year is the environment: what impact do we have on the world around us? How are we, as Jews, supposed to interact with the environment? What can we do to keep our planet happy and healthy?

We will begin with braiding challah* and making vegetarian chili (to be eaten at lunch, of course). Then we will come together in a meditative Shabbat morning service, before we enjoy our chili with a side of text study in the afternoon.

We hope you can join us for this incredible morning in community.

Registration will open Wednesday, January 23.

*Want to help us make challah? Join us Friday, February 1 at 10:00 a.m.! We’re going to make the dough and then braid it the morning of the Shabbaton. All ingredients will be provided, but we ask that if you have a stand mixer with a bread hook, measuring cups, and/or measuring spoons, please bring them!! (and make sure they’re labeled with your name) Please, no children under 5. RSVP to Rabbi Wainer by January 29.

Tot Shabbat
Feb 2 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Torah Talk (1)

Nothing is more heartwarming than the sight of the youngest members of our community running to the Sanctuary for Shabbat! Tot Shabbat affords our children and their families the time and space to truly experience the joys of Shabbat. Songs, stories, plenty of active participation, an Ark overflowing with plush stuffed Torahs, and a child-friendly d’var Torah (lesson). What could be better?

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming; there is no dress code, and there is no shushing if your little one can’t sit still (they are free to move around!) The service is followed by a delicious child-friendly, nut free oneg!

While Tot Shabbatot (plural for Shabbat) are designed for toddlers and preschoolers, the whole family is invited to attend. Personal snacks must be nut-free and we ask that no food is eaten during the service in the sanctuary.
