Written Law Becomes Oral Law

Tamid is NVHC’s 8th – 12th grade program. Meeting on Tuesday nights, Tamid focuses on building dynamic Jewish community through ongoing text study, social action projects, social time, and teen leadership initiatives.

Mussar in Practice: The Path of the Soul

Jewish life and practice can help us to see what really is and what really can be. We explore Jewish wisdom together about how to navigate through our lives and find fulfillment and well-being.

In our sanctuary, join me for a weekly drop-in where we will explore contemplative practices and exercises framed by a mussar (character) trait. The weekly trait will be noted in the weekly synagogue email. We will use the teachings of Mussar with mindfulness practices to create a weekly space for open approaching the multiple spiritual dimensions of Jewish tradition and Jewish living.

Hebrew Class for Adult B’nai Mitzvah

A Hebrew class only for those who are participating in the Adult B’nai Mitzvah experience. This will be dedicated to both learning to decode Hebrew reading and learning Hebrew prayer.

Biblical Hebrew 2

For students who want to be able to read, understand, and translate selections from Torah. We will learn to recognize variety of verb forms and expand knowledge of Biblical vocabulary.

Prerequisites: Biblical Hebrew 1 or equivalent. Some familiarity with Hebrew grammar and vocabulary.

NVHC with VOICE at the General Assembly

To be a continuous reminder though out the General Assembly’s session regarding VOICE’s values and demands, VOICE is ensuring that there is a visible presence in Richmond every day of the 45-day General Assembly. Our focus is support of the Governor’s budget that includes additional funding for schools to address mental health issues, and more affordable housing for all Virginians. NVHC is responsible for sending a contingent to Richmond on January 25. We will be going in carpools. If you are interested or for more information, contact Stu Williger for more information.

Ahh, it’s finally Friday! Come celebrate the last Friday of every month with us! We will have a family-mindful service for the entire community, followed by oneg and dinner. Wine will be provided. Registration for dinner is required.

Shabbat Sustenance– For the Body, Soul, and Mind

We will begin our Shabbat morning experience with sustenance for the body – bagels and shmear, coffee and tea.  From there, we will enter into soul-filled sustenance, that may vary some from week to week, including mindful experiences of prayer, music, meditation or yoga. The remainder of our time together with be sustenance for the mind, a time of conversation and insight. Come for the food, stay for the spirit – we hope you will join us on this nourishing Shabbat morning journey!

Kehillat Limmud
