A Hebrew class only for those who are participating in the Adult B’nai Mitzvah experience. This will be dedicated to both learning to decode Hebrew reading and learning Hebrew prayer.

Learn to read Hebrew! No previous experience required. This class introduces the student to Hebrew letters and vowels, and broadens the student’s understanding of the use of Hebrew in Jewish life, ritual, study, and tradition. The student will learn to read Hebrew phonetically, to recognize common Hebrew roots used in prayer, and to write block letters. This course provides a foundation for the rest of our Hebrew classes. No prerequisites.

The Big Jewish Ideas

As one of the cornerstones of Western Civilization, Judaism presents some of the greatest ideas of humanity. This lunchtime quick conversation will be a chance to explore 7 of these ideas in a way that is accessible, yet insightful: time, space, holiness, commandedness, love, justice and learning. The “class” requires no prerequisite knowledge or preparation, and people should feel free to join in from wherever. A zoom link will be emailed on Thursday mornings to registered participants. The emphasis of these classes is on improving prayer fluency, the acquisition of basic prayer vocabulary, and understanding the structure of the prayer service. Each class will focus on one section of the prayer service, and may include additional prayers as desired by the students.

Prerequisites: Beginning Hebrew or equivalent. Knowledge of the Hebrew alphabet and basic pronunciation.

Biblical Hebrew 2

For students who want to be able to read, understand, and translate selections from Torah. We will learn to recognize variety of verb forms and expand knowledge of Biblical vocabulary.

Prerequisites: Biblical Hebrew 1 or equivalent. Some familiarity with Hebrew grammar and vocabulary.
