SUMMARY:Erev Shabbat Service - The Pulpit and the Pew
DESCRIPTION:Join us every Friday to celebrate Shabbat – to sit back\, take a breath\, and truly pause to enjoy the peace that is this weekly gift. \nOur service this Friday is part of our Pulpit and the Pew experiment. One of the goals of Rebuilding Democracy has been the promotion of viewpoint diversity. At the same time\, sermons from the pulpit (even the Zoom pulpit!) have long advanced moral causes in our democracy. This format\, the sermon from the pulpit\, can also be polarizing and divisive due to its mono-directional nature. Pulpit and the Pew is an experiment that encourages sermonic leadership while inviting congregational response. Our clergy will teach during services on how Jewish texts and tradition apply to public issues and congregants will be invited after the service to stay online for a conversation. \nTo learn more about Shabbat at NVHC\, click here. \nCan’t make it to services? Live stream them! We are pleased to offer live streaming of all of our Erev Shabbat services\, unless otherwise stated. Click here to view the stream (note: the stream will appear a few minutes prior to the service start time)

SUMMARY:Shabbat Sustenance – Great Texts of America
DESCRIPTION:**While NVHC’s building is closed\, all programs will take place online. Please see your daily email or email info@nvhcreston.org for more information.** \nOne of the cornerstones of our Rebuilding Democracy Project\, Great Texts of America gives us the opportunity to study the foundational texts of our country using the same skills and devices we use to study Torah. The text changes from month to month\, but the conversation is always lively. \nThis month\, we’re examining John F. Kennedy’s “Faith Speech” on the role of his faith in his potential presidency. \nClick here to read an article in the Washington Post about Rebuilding Democracy and Great Texts of America.

SUMMARY:Conversations on Race in Our Commonwealth
DESCRIPTION:Virginia has a special place in the story of American racism. In May 2019\, Rabbi Holzman went on a clergy pilgrimage across the Commonwealth to encounter people and places that tell this story. How can our location help us grow as citizens and human beings\, as we explore this difficult topic?
