DESCRIPTION:IN PERSON AT NVHC \nSince 2016\, NVHC has been creating programs that help incubate habits of healthy citizenship—listening across different viewpoints\, honoring dissent\, strengthening institutional governance\, complicating our understanding of American identities and narratives\, ritualizing critical moments of shared history—under the rubric of the [Rebuilding Democracy Project].  As we prepare for our upcoming programming year\, we would love to invite you to an organizational meeting of the Rebuilding Democracy Project on August 16\, at 7PM.  A key part of this meeting will be discussing a grant application that will enable NVHC to share our ideas with neighboring houses of worship\, and we will be asking for volunteers to become peer mentors and coaches in the project.  We will also be brainstorming ideas for the upcoming year.  We look forward to hearing your thoughts and having your help as we go forward with this important work

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 23\n9:00am\nIN PERSON and ON ZOOM\n\nOne of the most powerful experiences of community is the sharing of memories. The ritual of saying Yizkor prayers highlights the importance of this practice. While most Jews are familiar with the Yom Kippur afternoon Yizkor\, we also gather in the service of memory on Sukkot\, Pesach and Shavuot. During these services we read aloud the names of everyone in our community who has died in the past year\, as well as the Yartzeit list for that week.\n\nOn the morning of April 23\, Shabbat Sustenance will be (in person only) beginning at 9:00 am. As the community gathers for morning bagels and coffee\, those who choose can join us in the sanctuary for Yizkor prayers (in person or on Zoom). At 9:30 we will rejoin the in-person group for study with our artist-in-residence\, Rabbi Noam Katz.
