DESCRIPTION:Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut are often called the Israeli High Holidays – Yom HaZikaron is Israel’s memorial day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror attacks\, and Yom HaAtzmaut is Israeli Independence Day. These holidays are celebrated back-to-back so that Israelis remember those who gave them the freedom to celebrate\, and celebrate the freedom those people sacrificed so much to give Israel. \nWe’ll begin by marking Yom HaZikaron by remembering all the fallen soldiers over Israel’s 77-year history\, as well as mourning those who have been lost since October 7\, 2023. \nWe’ll then experience the true Israeli Jewish experience of these holidays and immediately go into our Yom HaAtzmaut celebration! Click here to learn more and click here to register. \nJune 6\, 6:30-8:00pm\, in person only \nTurning Pain into Music: Israel Since October 7th \nThe arts are often filled with expressions of the creator’s pain and trauma. For the State of Israel\, music has always been an expression of the emotional state of the country. In these months since October 7th\, there has been a huge wave of creativity in music especially\, to bring voice to trauma\, rage\, sadness\, healing and wholeness.  This session will explore this most recent creative transformation in Israeli popular music.

SUMMARY:Shavuot Celebration of Learning with Yizkor
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a celebration of Torah\, learning\, and of course\, cheesecake! Our schedule for the evening is: \n6:00pm – Bagel & lox dinner ($10 per person) \n6:30pm – Shavuot service with Torah reading and Yizkor \n8:00pm – Cheesecake oneg \n8:30pm – Teaching and study \nAfter our Shavuot service\, we will move to the multi-purpose room for a festive cheesecake oneg and evening study of the Book of Ruth. We will explore the beautiful story of Ruth\, a Moabite woman who found Judaism through the love she felt for her widowed mother-in-law. Given that Shavuot is the day that our Jewish mythology teaches “we all stood at Sinai\,” Ruth challenges us to ask how well we are doing with welcoming the newcomer\, the novice\, and the nervous to Jewish life. \nClick here to RSVP!
