DESCRIPTION:Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut are often called the Israeli High Holidays – Yom HaZikaron is Israel’s memorial day for fallen soldiers and victims of terror attacks\, and Yom HaAtzmaut is Israeli Independence Day. These holidays are celebrated back-to-back so that Israelis remember those who gave them the freedom to celebrate\, and celebrate the freedom those people sacrificed so much to give Israel. \nWe’ll begin by marking Yom HaZikaron by remembering all the fallen soldiers over Israel’s 77-year history\, as well as mourning those who have been lost since October 7\, 2023. \nWe’ll then experience the true Israeli Jewish experience of these holidays and immediately go into our Yom HaAtzmaut celebration! DESCRIPTION:Erev Juneteenth Observance: Evening of Ritual\, Study\, and Action \nJune 18\, 6:30pm\, IN PERSON \nClick here to register! \nJoin the Racial Justice Team for a meaningful and memorable Juneteenth Observance. We’ll begin with a ritual lead by our clergy team\, followed by a conversation with featured speaker Marc Elias on “The Voting Rights Act of 1965 and Judicial Decisions Which Diminish Its Effect.” Mr Elias is the Founder of Democracy Docket and is a nationally-recognized authority and expert in voting rights\, campaign finance\, and redistricting law. He has successfully argued and won four cases in the US Supreme Court\, as well as dozens of cases in state supreme courts and US courts of appeal. \nThe final part of the evening will be a hands-on opportunity to get involved in preserving and expanding voter participation in Virginia with a variety of different projects. \n
