SUMMARY:Tot Shabbat
DESCRIPTION:Nothing is more heartwarming than the sight of the youngest members of our community running to the sanctuary for Shabbat! Typically held on the first Saturday of the month\, Tot Shabbat affords our children and their families the time and space to truly experience the joys of Shabbat. Nell Hirsch\, our children’s music specialist\, leads Tot Shabbat with the assistance of Rabbi Holzman\, Cantor Caro\, or Rabbi Barrett. \nSongs\, stories\, plenty of active participation\, an Ark overflowing with plush stuffed Torahs\, and a child-friendly d’var Torah (lesson). What could be better? Well\, maybe the oneg! \nEach service is followed by a delicious nut-free oneg (personal snacks are allowed but they must be nut free) and a fun activity! Paint your own mezuzah; build an edible sukkah of pretzels\, fruit\, and marshmallows; or decorate your own tzedakah box – the fun is endless! \nWhile Tot Shabbatot (plural for Shabbat) are designed for toddlers and preschoolers\, the whole family is invited to attend. If you have any questions\, please contact Emily Hummel.

We will explore a series of\nthemes such as efforts to achieve civic equality and Jewish participation in each country’s politics and\nthe military\, the history of immigration and ghetto life from the 19th century up to the present\, Jewish\ndemography\, and the history of Judaism in its varieties. The course will also address the experiences in\ndiverse communities with Anti-Semitism and the Holocaust\, and different communities’ ties to Zionism\nand Israel. \nClick here to register!

SUMMARY:Dirshuni: Contemporary Midrashim
DESCRIPTION:Taught by Rabbi Barrett\nWednesdays\, May 7\, May 21\, and one additional date TBD – Please note the April 30 class has been combined with our Yom HaZikaron Observance/Yom HaAtzmaut Celebration\n7:00-8:15pm\, in person and on Zoom \nIn recent years\, there has been a burgeoning interest in contemporary midrashim authored by Israeli women and focused on female figures in scripture. These Midrashim have been collected into a volume called Dirshuni meaning seek for me.  Midrash is an ancient rabbinic form of exegesis\, often seen as “stories” that fill the narrative gaps in biblical texts. Join us for this engaging study\, where we will explore a different midrash in each session. Throughout the course\, we will enhance our textual skills while also opening our hearts and minds to our foremothers’ poignant and emotional stories\, viewing them through a fresh lens\, and dive into this beautiful new collection. \nClick here to register.
