SUMMARY:Erev Shabbat Service - The Pulpit and the Pew
DESCRIPTION:One of the goals of Rebuilding Democracy has been the promotion of viewpoint diversity. At the same time\, sermons from the pulpit have long advanced moral causes in our democracy. This format\, the sermon from the pulpit\, can also be polarizing and divisive due to its mono-directional nature. Pulpit and the Pew is an experiment that encourages sermonic leadership while inviting congregational response. Our clergy will teach during services on how Jewish texts and tradition apply to public issues and congregants will be invited after the oneg to return to the sanctuary for a conversation. \n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Nothing is more heartwarming than the sight of the youngest members of our community running to the Sanctuary for Shabbat! Tot Shabbat affords our children and their families the time and space to truly experience the joys of Shabbat. Songs\, stories\, plenty of active participation\, an Ark overflowing with plush stuffed Torahs\, and a child-friendly d’var Torah (lesson). What could be better? \nThe atmosphere is warm and welcoming; there is no dress code\, and there is no shushing if your little one can’t sit still (they are free to move around!) The service is followed by a delicious child-friendly\, nut free oneg! \nWhile Tot Shabbatot (plural for Shabbat) are designed for toddlers and preschoolers\, the whole family is invited to attend. Personal snacks must be nut-free and we ask that no food is eaten during the service in the sanctuary. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:Erev Shabbat Service - The Pulpit and the Pew\, with Kol Shirah
DESCRIPTION:Join us to welcome in Shabbat with our adult volunteer choir\, Kol Shirah! This Shabbat is also our second Pulpit and the Pew\, an experiment that encourages a multi-directional relationship between the sermon from the pulpit and the congregants hearing the sermon.\n\nDuring this service\, our clergy will address climate change\, and then after the oneg\, congregants are invited to return to the sanctuary for a conversation about the sermon and climate change.\n\nWe are talking about climate change as part of an initiative by FACS (Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions) and other faith-based organizations to\, along with other clergy around the region\, address caring for the planet and climate change as part of their sermons and other learning programs this weekend. Click here to learn more about this awesome initiative.
