Minimum 7 students. \nThe emphasis of Prayer Hebrew 1 is on improving prayer fluency\, the acquisition of basic prayer vocabulary\, and understanding the structure of the prayer service. The course will begin with a review of basic reading rules and include a mix of “simple” and more complex prayers. Each class will focus on a section of the prayer service and may also include additional prayers as desired by the students. Students may repeat as often as needed to gain confidence in the prayers. Her latest body of work\, a series titled The End: A Meditation on Death and Extinction is no exception. In nearly 40 works of painted porcelain and glass\, as well as two large bronze sculptures\, Chicago tackles human mortality and species extinction. \nThe tour is at 11:00 a.m. Afterwards\, we will have lunch together at the museum\, and those who wish to stay in the museum for further exploration can do so. \nTickets are $10.00 for seniors (over 65) and $12.00 for others. DESCRIPTION:As Jews\, we are no strangers to the concept of immigration. Our families were all immigrants from somewhere\, facing difficult choices along the way. In today’s world\, we are hearing about various issues surrounding immigration on a daily basis. Join us on a year-long series to explore a 360° view of immigration\, helping us to gain a more nuanced understanding of the state of immigration in America today. Every month\, we will have a speaker join us to share their point of view on immigration – from attorneys and judges to those in the process of immigration\, from government employees to school counselors – each providing a unique look at immigration today. Following their presentation to our teens\, our speakers will spend an hour with our lifelong learners covering these same issues. \nThis week’s speaker will be our very own Building Manager Anibal Blanco! Anibal hails from El Salvador and is currently going through the immigration process. Come hear him speak about his family’s journey to the United States and their experience of immigration and citizenship.

DESCRIPTION:Calling all families! We are planning an afternoon of giving back and decreasing family stress. The first part of the afternoon will be a presentation for parents on how to decrease stress at home. Children and teens will work with our college and graduate students to make cards to be sent to our deployed active military personnel\, sharing stories and words of encouragement. The second part of the afternoon will bring families together to set “stressless and giving back” family goals. This program is good for children ages 5 and up\, and at least one parent.

SUMMARY:B'nai Mitzvah Parents Class
DESCRIPTION:This class is for parents of students who will become B’nai Mitzvah in the near future. In five sessions\, the class discusses the meaning of this life cycle event and the mitzvah of celebrating Shabbat; provides information about your responsibilities and the sequence of your child’s preparation; explains the structure of the worship service using Mishkan Tefilah\, the Reform siddur (prayerbook); and provides an opportunity to prepare a D’var Torah. The class blends structured teaching\, practical advice\, and shared experiences. The goal is to make the Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation process a deeply meaningful experience for the whole family and to perpetuate the spirit of Jewish community and tradition. Parents generally take the class from 6 to 18 months before the Bar/Bat Mitzvah event. Past participants in the class\, both Jewish and non-Jewish parents\, report that the sessions helped them to feel better prepared\, gave them an opportunity to talk with other pre-B’nai Mitzvah parents\, and taught them numerous aspects of the tradition and liturgy involved in this lifecycle event.

Please see your daily email or email info@nvhcreston.org for more information.** \nwith Yehudit Shem-Tov-Gerrig\nWednesdays starting January 29 for 10 weeks\n5:30-6:30 pm\n$110 for members\, $154 for non-members\n \nRegistration is required. Minimum 5 students. \nLearn to read Hebrew – no previous experience required. This class introduces the student to Hebrew letters and vowels\, and broadens the student’s understanding of the use of Hebrew in Jewish life\, ritual\, study\, and tradition. This course provides a foundation for the rest of our Hebrew classes. \nPrerequisites: None.
