SUMMARY:Erev Shabbat Service Honoring Rabbi Wainer Together in Our Sanctuary
DESCRIPTION:On June 11 at 7:00 pm\, we invite you to a particularly special Shabbat service. At risk of breaking the Jewish rule against mixing special occasions or mixing joyful and painful moments\, we will be honoring Rabbi Wainer’s service to NVHC at our first Friday night in the sanctuary since March 6\, 2020. \nRabbi Jessie Wainer came to NVHC in the summer of 2016 as our first Rabbi in the role of Director of Congregational Learning. She has been a beloved teacher and pastor\, an inspired leader\, and a treasured colleague. We are so proud of her accomplishment in becoming an Associate Rabbi at Congregation Etz Chayim near her family in Chicago\, and we are so sad to see her depart. So June 11 will be a time to express the combination of sadness and joy at this next phase of her career. \nSimultaneously\, the opportunity to be one community\, in our sanctuary\, together in song and prayer has been a North Star for so many of us through this pandemic. To return is a moment of joy\, and at the same time things will not be the same as they were before the Pandemic. \n\nAttendance at the in-person service will be limited to 125 people\nRegistration is required to attend in person\nA waiver is included and required as part of the registration process.\nChairs will be spaced out throughout the sanctuary and social hall.\nHEPA filters and improved HVAC settings will increase air circulation.\nMasks will be required for those who are in person\nWe will broadcast the service on Zoom and YouTube\nHEPA filters and improved HVAC settings will increase air circulation.\n\nSo June 11 will be a time to celebrate and to remember that this pandemic is still not over. \nThese mixtures of emotion are a natural part of life during transition. Community is a key way we make sense of a rapidly changing world. Please join your NVHC community on June 11 at 7:00 pm as we mark this key moment in time.

The presenter will be Lindsey Vajpeyi\, the Director of Education and Outreach at Insight Memory Care Center in Fairfax. \nLindsey has dedicated her career to working with older adults who live with dementia and their caregivers. Her certifications include Certified Dementia Practitioner®\, Certified Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Care Trainer®\, Activity Director Certification with specialization in Memory Care\, Master Trainer with the Best Friends™ Approach to Dementia Care\, and she is a registered Dementia Friends Champion. Lindsey is passionate about quality dementia care from professionals\, support and education for care partners\, and assisting those with dementia to retain a sense of self and purpose throughout every stage of the disease.

DESCRIPTION:LET’S KVETCH! \nWe have all had a year!  This virus has been devastating to our society\, our economy and our mental stability. We have lost loved ones\, watched friends and family suffer and many of us have been sick as well. \nAlong with illness and fear\, this beast of a virus has been a big fat inconvenience. \nIs it the big things (loss of weddings\, Bar  Mitzvahs\, holiday gatherings) or the small things (grocery stores\, toilet paper\, virtual school) or is it ALL  OF THE THINGS  that have pushed you to the edge? \nWe have all been affected in so many ways\, sometimes we don’t even realize how many ways until we walk into the orthodontist office and realize we have forgotten the darn  mask AGAIN.  Many of us are exhausted\, anxious\, depressed\, lonely\, isolated\, depleted or all of the above. \nLet’s have a conversation.  So often it helps to know that we aren’t alone.  \nCome to a virtual facilitated group chat to share the angst\, support one another and have some laughs.  Laurie Levine LCSW (and fellow congregant)  will guide us during the event; she will provide a safe and confidential space for us to share in a healthy and productive manner. \nPlease join us; you may not even realize how badly you need this until you carve out the time for yourself and see how helpful a good kvetch can be. \nPlease note that only registered participants will receive the Zoom link.
