SUMMARY:Tot Shabbat
DESCRIPTION:Nothing is more heartwarming than the sight of the youngest members of our community running to the sanctuary for Shabbat! Typically held on the first Saturday of the month\, Tot Shabbat affords our children and their families the time and space to truly experience the joys of Shabbat. Nell Hirsch\, our children’s music specialist\, leads Tot Shabbat with the assistance of Rabbi Holzman\, Cantor Caro\, or Rabbi Barrett. \nSongs\, stories\, plenty of active participation\, an Ark overflowing with plush stuffed Torahs\, and a child-friendly d’var Torah (lesson). What could be better? Well\, maybe the oneg! \nEach service is followed by a delicious nut-free oneg (personal snacks are allowed but they must be nut free) and a fun activity! Paint your own mezuzah; build an edible sukkah of pretzels\, fruit\, and marshmallows; or decorate your own tzedakah box – the fun is endless! \nWhile Tot Shabbatot (plural for Shabbat) are designed for toddlers and preschoolers\, the whole family is invited to attend. If you have any questions\, please contact Emily Hummel.

SUMMARY:Shabbat Sustenance: The Font of Revelation\, with Soferet Julie Seltzer
DESCRIPTION:Join us in person for a special Shabbat morning with Soferet Julie Seltzer! \nThe Font of Revelation: Evolution of Hebrew Scripts \nTorah script\, called Ashurit\, did not exist at the time tradition places the revelation of Torah at Sinai. The earliest Hebrew scripts are actually unrecognizable to Hebrew readers today. This class explores the development of Hebrew scripts\, from pictograph to alphabet\, as well as how the rabbis of the Talmud dealt with the historical conundrum of the holy script. \nAs always\, there will be bagels and coffee!

SUMMARY:Comparative Diaspora
DESCRIPTION:Taught by Andrew Stein\nSundays\, October 20\, 27; November 10\, 17; December 8\, 15; January 12\, 19\, 26; February 2\, 9\, 23; March 2\, 9\, 16\, 23; April 6\, 27; May 4\, 18\n9:15-10:30am\, in person and on Zoom \nSynopsis: Many American Jews\, though not all\, trace their roots to ancestors who came to the United\nStates of America before 1945\, with subsequent waves of Jews from the former Soviet Union and\nIslamic world\, Holocaust survivors\, Israelis and others. This course will take a new look at the experience\nand evolution of the Jews in America over time and topically with a different lens. We’ll compare and\ncontrast the American Jewish experience with that of other English-speaking Diaspora communities like\nthe UK\, Canada\, and Australia\, as well as France\, Argentina\, and Brazil. We will explore a series of\nthemes such as efforts to achieve civic equality and Jewish participation in each country’s politics and\nthe military\, the history of immigration and ghetto life from the 19th century up to the present\, Jewish\ndemography\, and the history of Judaism in its varieties. The course will also address the experiences in\ndiverse communities with Anti-Semitism and the Holocaust\, and different communities’ ties to Zionism\nand Israel. \nClick here to register!
