Women of NVHC – Supporting one Another, our Temple and our Extended Community
Celebrating, Learning, and Giving with Acts of Loving Kindness
A Note from Your Co-Presidents
Peggy Nelson and Deb Meland
The Women of NVHC are excited to kick off another year of sisterhood and friendship, charity and care!
We welcome and encourage you to join our vibrant and energetic group. You will make connections, providing that sense of warmth, acceptance, and belonging we need to support us through all life’s ups and downs.
The dictionary defines “support” as a “thing that bears the weight of something and keeps it upright.” Women of NVHC offers this to you: a place where friends become family, a place to know you belong, a place to gather, share food, laugh, and talk, and a place to catch you when you need to cry.
We are an inclusive community for all NVHC women,– married, partnered, single, divorced, or widowed – with or without children – Jewish and non-Jewish – those that identify as a woman — we welcome all. And, if you are a new NVHC member, we welcome you with one year of free membership to Women of NVHC.
A dedicated Board and Committee Chairs create a dynamic calendar of events. And we are always open to new ideas. Please do not hesitate to contact us with an idea, an interest, or a new way to make connections; we welcome your thoughts and help in developing new programs and events (contact info below). As a member, you will receive our weekly emails on Monday mornings detailing upcoming events, such as:
* Chocolate & Champagne – November 2. Not to be Missed!
* Book Discussions – November 9, including a discussion with the author!
* Small Group Gatherings at area restaurants – Try new places and foods.
* Mah Jongg Tournament.
* Membership Gatherings (winter and spring).
* Women’s Passover Celebration.
* Tikkun Olam Projects (e.g., volunteering at Women Giving Back).
Yearly dues and fundraising go to subsidize our activities and to support NVHC (e.g., camp scholarships, school programs, gifts for B’nai Mitzvah students, Confirmation students, and congregational engagement, such as social events).
Join the Women of NVHC; make deep and lasting connections and feel the warmth and support of belonging. Join us for exciting and interesting educational programs, social events and just plain fun. We look forward to welcoming you.

Social Action/Collection Drives
Women of NVHC’s social action focuses on women and children in the local community. We organize volunteer days, participate in community walks and other events, and support NVHC’s social action program.
We also have several ongoing collection drives:
- Gently used winter coats, gloves and (new) hats to support Cornerstones (Collection box is located in the Sanctuary coat closet from November – January). More information at: Sisterhood Annual Coat Drive
- Used cell phones for the Jewish Coalition Against Domestic Violence (JCADA) Donate phones with or without chargers, and place in the “Women Giving Back” box in the Sanctuary coat closet. JCADA will delete the data and reset the phone. More information at: Cell Phone Collection
- Knit or Crochet Pieces for Warm up America Warm up America collects pieces to make into blankets for those in need. (Pieces will be collected from the Women Giving Back collection box in the Sanctuary coat closet.) More information and instructions at: Warm Up America
- Gently used women’s and children’s clothing and accessories and travel size toiletries to Women Giving Back, to provide free clothing to homeless women and their children (Women Giving Back (WGB) box in the Sanctuary coat closet),
