Women of NVHC – Supporting one Another, our Temple and our Extended Community

Celebrating, Learning, and Giving with Acts of Loving Kindness

The Women of NVHC are excited to kick off another year of celebrating, learning, and giving. Women of NVHC offers a place to belong, gather, laugh, talk, and be supported during tough times. We are an inclusive community for NVHC women, – married, partnered, single, divorced, widowed – those that identify as a woman – with or without children – Jewish and non-Jewish – we welcome you.

We provide a dynamic calendar of events. And we are always open to new ideas. Please do not hesitate to contact us with an idea, an interest, or a new way to make connections (contact info below). As a member, you will receive our weekly emails detailing upcoming events, such as:

  • An evening in the Sukkah – October 1.
  • Book Discussions – October 11 is the first one, The Lost Girl of Craven County, with zoom book talk with the author Emily Matchar.
  • Chocolate & Champagne – October 18. As good as it sounds!
  • Global Lunches – Small group gatherings at area restaurants.
  • Mah Jongg Tournament – March 14.
  • Membership Gatherings in winter and spring.
  • Women’s Hanukkah Party and Passover Celebration.
  • Tikkun Olam Projects (e.g., Women Giving Back, BRAWS).

Yearly dues and fundraising subsidize our activities and support NVHC (e.g., camp scholarships, school programs, gifts for B’nai Mitzvah students, confirmation students, and congregational engagement social events). And, if you are a new NVHC member, we welcome you with one year of free membership to Women of NVHC. We do not turn anyone away. Contact us by email with any concerns.

Social Action/Collection Drives

Women of NVHC’s social action focuses on women and children in the local community. We  organize volunteer days, participate in community walks and other events, and support NVHC’s social action program.

We also have several ongoing collection drives:

  • Gently used winter coats, gloves and (new) hats to support Cornerstones (Collection box is located in the Sanctuary coat closet from November – January).  More information at: Sisterhood Annual Coat Drive
  • Used cell phones for the Jewish Coalition Against Domestic Violence (JCADA)  Donate phones with or without chargers, and place in the “Women Giving Back” box in the Sanctuary coat closet. JCADA will delete the data and reset the phone.  More information at: Cell Phone Collection
  • Knit or Crochet Pieces for Warm up America Warm up America collects pieces to make into blankets for those in need.  (Pieces will be collected from the Women Giving Back collection box in the Sanctuary coat closet.)  More information and instructions at: Warm Up America
  • Gently used women’s and children’s clothing and accessories and travel size toiletries to Women Giving Back, to provide free clothing to homeless women and their children (Women Giving Back (WGB) box in the Sanctuary coat closet),
