Scholar-in-Residence: Rabbi Tamir NirBy Emily Hummel
As we enjoy summer here in the U.S. we have a special treat as our friend Rabbi Tamir Nir of Kehillat Achva B’Kerem in Jerusalem will be joining us to learn with us this weekend.
Thursday night at 7:30 pm Rabbi Nir will be using video clips to teach about contemporary Israeli society and the upcoming Knesset elections (yes there is another election coming).
Friday night at 7:00 pm Rabbi Nir will offer a D’var Torah as our guest speaker during services. His remarks will be on the Torah Portion of the week and will connect to life as a Reform Jewish leader in Israel.
Saturday morning at 9:00 am, as part of Shabbat Sustenance, Rabbi Nir will be teaching from Chaim Nahman Bialik’s famous essay Halachah and Aggadah. This essay is a cornerstone of modern understanding of Jewish text both for Israelis in the land of Israel and for Diaspora Jews adapting Jewish tradition to contemporary life. The text was originally in Hebrew and we will be using an English translation.
Please join us for this gift of learning about Israel in the middle of the East Coast summer.
