Joshua Renne-Brown

Josh has been working in synagogue spaces in the Northern Virginia area since he was old enough to be a madrich. He has been a song leader, a Hebrew School teacher, a Men’s Club board member, choir member, and community member. In his professional life, he spent a decade as a music teacher in public schools and over a decade in parks and recreation running camps, classes, and community programming at parks and community centers. In his free time, Josh practices Tae Kwon Do, and likes to enjoy nature, tabletop gaming, and artistic endeavors. He lives in Reston with his wife, Katie, and their cat, Brisket.

Susan Goldsmith

Susan joined NVHC as our Engagement and Marketing Coordinator in August 2024. Originally from Indianapolis, she has been a Northern Virginia resident since 2006, following her move to work as a Compliance Analyst for Navy Federal Credit Union. Susan earned her Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, with a specialization in Hebrew, from Indiana University. She also holds an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University.
Outside of work, Susan enjoys spending time with her husband, Adam, two children, and two dogs. Her hobbies include painting, dabbling in digital art and website design, and exploring the outdoors, especially going for walks with her family.

Michael Langlois

in

Mike Langlois joined the music staff of NVHC in 2017; he is also Director of Music at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Leesburg and pianist at Adas Israel Congregation in Cleveland Park. Mike has previously been associated with several other DC-area congregations, including Temple Sinai, Temple Micah, Washington Hebrew Congregation, and Temple Isaiah. Mike earned his BM in Piano Performance from Indiana University before receiving his MM and DMA in Collaborative Piano from the University of Maryland. He and his wife Tanya make their home in Ashburn with their two cats, Iggy and Isabelle.

Joe Miller

Joe joined NVHC in September of 2019 as our Development Manager, working primarily on the Nitzavim Capital Campaign. In August of 2020, he took on the position of Executive Director.

Joe was born and raised in Wisconsin, spent 10 years in New York City, and then did a long and hot stint in sunny Arizona. In New York, he worked for the American Red Cross, and then at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business, first as the Business Manager in the Development Office, and then as Director of the Office of Student Activities. In Arizona, Joe served for 10+ years as the Executive Director of Temple Chai, a 700-family Reform synagogue, which is the largest temple in Arizona. He holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin.

Joe and his wife, Martha, who is an attorney, have two teenage children, and are loving their new home in tree-filled Reston.

Mozelle Stanton

The first friendly voice you may hear (or face you might see) when you call NVHC, Mozelle Karnette Stanton, the Administrative Assistant, has been employed with NVHC since August, 2007. A longtime member of NVHC, with both children attending the Preschool and Religious School, and a member of Kol Shirah (our adult choir) since 2001, Mozelle has many diverse interests and commitments to NVHC. She also teaches ballet at a local area dance school, as her greatest passion in life is dance.

Emily Hummel

Emily joined NVHC in July, 2017 and held many education- and communications-related positions here before becoming the Director of Congregational Learning in 2026. She has a master’s degree in Religion from Temple University and bachelor’s degrees in History and Religion from the University of Mary Washington.

She lives in Sterling with her best friend and two rambunctious kittens. Outside of NVHC, her passions in life include tabletop games, exploring the outdoors, and any craft that involves needle and thread.
